My faith is fairly straightforward to me, but seems to confuse other people. So here’s my easy explanation:
I’m a follower of Yeshua. That’s not some strange cult thing, it’s just (the most likely pronunciation of) the actual Jewish name of Jesus, rather than a transliteration of the Greek translation. I like to say that I’m Messianic. If I say I’m Messianic Jewish, I’m slightly wrong, because my mother’s mother is not Jewish (it’s through her father) and so most Jewish people say I can’t be either. (Except Reform Jews.) If I say I’m a Messianic Gentile, which is a newer term for Jewish-sensitive followers of Jesus, I’m also slightly wrong because I am a Jewish descendant and do have some cultural and religious influence from that in my life. I use other words depending on the context, but Messianic is the easiest to me.
See? Simple. :)
