Heh, I agree with you. For me it simply makes no sense. If I wanted to buy a crippled device, I'd buy a netbook. It at least has SD / USB support.

If I wanted an e-reader, I'd buy a Nook (seriously, that thing looks friggin sweet).

If I wanted an iphone, I'd buy an iphone.

If I wanted an ipod, I'd buy an ipod.

And if I truly wanted an Apple product that would do all of the above, I'd buy a Macbook. Because it won't be crippled, it will have USB support, and can do all of the above plus more.

Or I'd save some money and buy a Lenovo.

I have since heard the argument that the iPad will be excellent as a medical device. The argument is based entirely on the possible potential of the device after much innovation and the next version of it comes out. However, I do understand that the iPhone/iTouch is already being used for many of these things, and that a bigger screen may in fact help. Although I personally think it will be a pain to carry around with that weight and size, this is something that could certainly be overcome.

So yes, at some point in the future I can see this becoming a use case. However, this does not give *me* any reason to buy it, nor the vast majority of people. And Jobs did not appear to be marketing to this audience. So...I'm still asking, why? And more specifically, why now?
